NHRA: Whisnant Delays Pro Stock Truck Debut until Topeka, will Run Super Gas at Indy

20 August 1998

STOCKBRIDGE, GA. -- Originally slated to make his Pro Stock Truck debut Labor Day weekend at the NHRA U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis, Mark Whisnants debut in the class will be delayed until the NHRA Parts America Nationals, Oct. 1-4, in Topeka, KS.

"A combination of delays with the truck has put us about two weeks behind so instead of rushing to make Indy, we want to take our time and be ready for the next Pro Stock Truck event in Topeka," Whisnant said. "Once we take delivery of the truck from Rick Jones, we plan to test at either St. Louis or Chicago, but in the meantime Im going to compete in Super Gas at Bowling Green and Indianapolis."

Whisnant, 29, son of former Pro Stock standout Reid Whisnant, and the Super Gas winner earlier this season at the NHRA Pennzoil Nationals in Houston, will be behind the wheel of his familiar RW Performance Super Gas Beretta at the NHRA Division 3 Federal-Mogul Drag Racing Series event in Kentucky and the NHRA U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis.

"Its been a while since Ive raced and with the truck being delayed we decided to bring out the Beretta and run it before we turn our total attention to the truck deal," Whisnant said. "The Beretta will have the same set-up we had in it the last time we competed and itll be fun to drive it one last time before we begin testing the S-10."
