IRL: Team Menard Penalized Following Radisson 200

22 August 1998

INDIANAPOLIS, - Team Menard has been penalized for violations that were discovered in the post-race inspection after the Radisson 200 on Aug. 16 at Pikes Peak International Raceway. The rear wings of both Team Menard cars were found to be in violation of technical specifications, Indy Racing League officials announced today.

As a result, Team Menard has been fined $25,000 and 15 points have been deducted from each entrant point total. Tony Stewart and Robbie Buhl will also have 15 points deducted from each of their season driver point totals.

"After such a great race at Pikes Peak International Raceway last Sunday, it's very disappointing that this had to happen," said Brian Barnhart, director of racing operations.

The $25,000 fine will be donated to the American Red Cross, the official charity of the Pep Boys Indy Racing League.
