ALLSTAR: Lincoln Speedway (Pa) Race Results

31 August 1998

Bill Meyer

ABBOTTSTOWN, PA, - Theres just no stopping Fred Rahmer. Aboard Al Hamiltons Chevrolet powered No. 77, Rahmer continued to rewrite the Lincoln Speedway record books by winning both ends of an All Star Circuit of Champions double-header Saturday night.

"Its like I said when I passed Kenny Weld. Bobbys a way better racer than Ill ever be," said Rahmer on moving past Bobby Allen into sole possession of second place on the Lincoln Speedway all-time win list with his 74th career win in the finale, "But Im just fortunate to be sitting in a good race car...its makes it all that better when youve got names like this hanging with yours."

It was Rahmers 16th and 17th wins of the year, matching the all-time winningest single-season totals of Steve Smith and Johnny Mackison, Sr. He became the 16th different All Star winner this season in 51 events. The first feature was a makeup from a May 2nd rain out.

"Cris had the thing won without those yellows...he drove a heck of a good race," said Rahmer after his second win of the night. "When youre leading like that, youve got to do what worked the lap before...I had nothing to lose and I tried something different and it worked."

"Cris is such a great racer, and with just a little twist of fate, a lot of them seconds would have been wins," Rahmer said when told of Eashs seven second place finishes behind him this year. "Its just my turn right now, and Im just going to do the best I can as long as I can."

Ask about his remarkable accomplishment of two wins against a stellar field of All Stars on the same night, Rahmer reacted, "We didnt come down here to win one. We were going to bring two cars in case we had any problems, but then we decided just to bring the one. Its a new car, and it worked really good."

The two features were remarkably similar. Both races went non-stop until a 20th-lap caution, and then went non-stop again until 27th-lap cautions.

Rahmer started fourth in the first feature and chased down race-long leader Joey Saldana in the first and second turns of lap nine. He started sixth in the second feature and caught ButlerBuilt Hot Seat polesitter and race-long leader Cris Eash on the 28th lap.

Jeff Shepard, Eash, Lance Dewease, and Steve Siegel finished second through fifth in the first feature. Rahmers margin of victory in the first race was .72 seconds.

Eash, Kevin Gobrecht, Donnie Kreitz, and Shepard completed the top five in the second feature. Rahmer won the second feature by a half-second. The second win was Rahmers 29th of the year, still tops in nation. Both features paid $4,000 to win.

Heats were won by Kenny Jacobs, Rahmer, Todd Gracey and Sarah Fisher.

Kevin Gobrecht won the Commercial Truck & Trailer Dash, while Johnny Mackison Jr. won United Expressline B-Main. Fast time was set by Steve Siegel over the 38-car field with a one-lap time of 13.695.
