IHRA: Mopar Performance Parts to Sponsor $50,000 IHRA Pro Modified Shootout

31 August 1998

NORWALK, Ohio -- Mopar Performance, the performance parts group of the Mopar Parts network, will sponsor the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) Pro Modified Shootout, which will take place at the Mopar Parts World Finals in Shreveport, La. on October 15-17 1999.

"This sponsorship demonstrates the commitment we at Mopar have for high-performance racing," said Lou Patane, Executive Director, Chrysler Motorsports Operations and Mopar Performance Parts. "We are also excited to offer Mopar Performance Parts-- including the Hemi engine--to the Pro Mod competitors, and think that its involvement will heighten competition. We feel this will make for some great racing for the fans to enjoy."

In addition, Mopar Performance Parts will provide prize money for a new

Mopar Performance Parts Pro Modified Shootout. The Shootout will encompass all Pro Modifieds, regardless of body or engine origin. The class will include powerplants with nitrous injection, as well as supercharged categories for wedge and Hemi engines.

Allowable supercharger overdrives will be separately adjusted for wedge and Hemi engines to maintain a "level playing field" with the gas/nitrous competitors.

The eight drivers who have earned the most points during qualifying will compete in the Mopar Performance Parts Pro Modified Shootout. Points will be accumulated at 10 IHRA National Events beginning with the IHRA Winter Nationals at Darlington International Dragway in Darlington, NC., March 12-14, 1999, and ending at the Presidents Cup Nationals in Budds Creek, Md., October 1-3, 1999.

Mopar Performance Parts will provide an overall purse of $50,000 for the Pro Modified Shootout. The Shootout winner will earn $20,000. The runner-up will pocket $10,000, while the two semifinalists will take home $5,000 each and the four first-round finishers $2,500.

As an added incentive, Mopar Performance will double the purse pay out to the competitor who wins with a Chrysler Corporation-designed vehicle powered by a Mopar engine in the Shootout.
