IHRA: Scotty Cannon Runs Quickest & Fastest IHRA P/M Pass

31 August 1998

NORWALK, OH-- Scotty Cannon had planned to sit out the final session on Saturday night qualifying at the World Nationals for fear that he would be penalized for running too good. He finally blew off the notion and that was not good for the Pro Modified contingent. The Cable TV Magazine sponsored, 5-time IHRA world champion roared to the quickest and fastest IHRA Pro Modified pass in history, a 6.374/220.70. The run marked the second time that a Pro Modified entry has run in the 6.30s (Cannon did it in July at Cordova) and the first time in IHRA competition that one had exceeded 220 miles per hour in his Eagle Racing Engines powered, Murray Anderson built 1953 Studebaker. This marked the fourth time this season that Cannon had secured the pole position. His is position pairs him against the #16 qualifier in the 16 car field
