NOTES AND QUOTES:
"Based on our recent Firebird test, we are introducing a new race recommendation at Vancouver which we expect will provide the same excellent grip exhibited at Toronto, with improved wear resistance," said Steve Orlando, Goodyears CART operations manager. Testing at Firebird Raceway on August 21st and 22nd enabled Goodyear engineers to further enhance the highly competitive Toronto race recommendation and develop an optimum setup for Vancouver.

Goodyears track simulation of the newly revised Vancouver street circuit revealed similarities to the cornering speeds generated at Toronto. In addition, the circuits layout provides very few opportunities for overtaking, making qualifying crucial. "We feel we are providing our teams with a very competitive tire that will give them the opportunity to obtain both the pole and victory at the new Vancouver circuit," added Orlando.

ESTIMATED PIT STOPS FOR THIS RACE:
Approximately every 34 - 38 laps (estimates based on fuel consumption)

DID YOU KNOW?...Two Goodyear drivers hold the race speed record at its three previous distances - Al Unser, Jr. at the 168.096 distance in 1993 and 170.3 distance in 1995, while Michael Andretti captured the record for the 167.70 distance in 1992. This year marks the first change in the circuits length since 1994, from 1.703 miles to 1.900 miles.
