IRL: Team Menard Appeals Penalties

INDIANAPOLIS, - Team Menard has appealed the penalties imposed by the Indy Racing League following the Radisson 200 on Aug. 16 at Pikes Peak International Raceway, League officials announced today.A private hearing has been scheduled for Wednesday, September 23, in Indianapolis as authorized in the 1998 Official Rule Book, Section XII - Appeals. The 1998 Rule Book entitles the League's Executive Director to appoint an Advisory Committee to assist him in making a determination of the appeal.
The executive director has appointed an advisory committee comprised of the following individuals: Dick Beaty, Retired NASCAR Winston Cup Director; Steve Roby, Manager, Engine Systems, Schwitzer Engine Components and past Indy 500 winning chief mechanic; and Alain Clarinvale, race car designer and aerodynamicist.
The advisory committee may make a recommendation as to the disposition of the appeal, but any determination is at the sole discretion of the executive director. (1998 Rule Book, Section XII-Appeals, 12.3).
The rear wings on both Team Menard cars were found to be in violation of League rules during the post-race technical inspection at Pikes Peak. Team Menard was fined $25,000 and 15 points were deducted from each entrant point total. In addition, Tony Stewart and Robbie Buhl had 15 points deducted from each of their season driver point totals.
