NASCAR Trucks: Liberty Racing Releases Wayne Anderson as Driver of #84 Porter-Cable Ford

18 September 1998

LORAIN, OH Liberty Racing team owner Jim Herrick today announced the release of Wayne Anderson as driver of the #84 Porter-Cable Power Tools Ford F-150. Bryan Reffner, the 1996 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Rookie of the Year, will drive the truck in the next race, the Ram Tough 200 in Madison, Illinois, on Saturday, September 19.

Taking action like this is never pleasant, Herrick said. It is particularly difficult when youre dealing with a quality young man like Wayne Anderson. I, and everyone associated with Liberty Racing, appreciate the effort hes put forth and wish him all the best in his future endeavors.

Herrick added that Reffner is committed only for the one race at Gateway International Raceway this weekend. Plans for the driver of the #84 Porter-Cable Power Tools Ford in the seasons final five races will be announced soon.

Anderson competed in 23 races in the Porter-Cable truck, including 21 this season. His best career performance is ninth in the Yellow Freight 200 at I-70 Speedway on May 23. He finished 10th in his most recent race, the Memphis 200, this past weekend. Anderson, a native of Wildwood, Florida, is currently 23rd in the NASCAR Truck Series driver point standings and fourth in the Cintas Rookie of the Year Award standings.

Reffner, started the season driving for Phelon Motorsports in the truck series. He was released from that position in mid August following the Nashville race. At the time, Reffner was 12th in the driver point standings. Since his release, Reffner has been a substitute driver on the series and is currently 17th in the points.

In 71 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series starts, Reffner has two pole positions and 18 top-10 finishes. His career-best finish, third, came only five races ago at Flemington (NJ) Speedway. Im delighted that a driver of Bryans ability is available on short notice for this weeks race, Herrick said. We look forward to going to Gateway International with him.
