BUSINESS: New Managing Director for Cosworth Racing

BRENTWOOD, England - Ford has appointed Dick Scammell, M.B.E., as Managing Director of Cosworth Racing, the British-based racing engine specialist it has purchased from Audi A.G.

Mr Scammell, 60, who was Director of Racing for Cosworth from 1992 until his retirement in 1996, said: "This is an interim appointment, which will allow me to oversee the smooth integration of Cosworth Racing into the Ford organisation. I believe that Ford and Cosworth's unique and highly successful relationship can now only get stronger and am delighted to be part of it."

Joining Cosworth in 1972, Dick Scammell received his M.B.E. for services to motor racing in 1995 after a career in the sport spanning almost 35 years. It began when he joined Team Lotus in 1960 as a junior mechanic. In less than a decade he rose to racing manager, responsible for Formula One, Two, Three and Indycar racing and was a key member of the team which saw World Championship wins for Jim Clark in 1963 and 1965, Graham Hill in 1968 and Jochen Rindt in 1970. He was Jim Clark's personal mechanic in the 1962-63 season. In his Cosworth career Mr. Scammell was involved in the successful world championship campaigns of many Ford-powered drivers including Jackie Stewart, Mario Andretti, Nelson Piquet and Michael Schumacher.
