NASCAR-CTS: Randy Renfrow to Drive IWX Chevy

24 September 1998

MARTINSVILLE, VA. - Randy Renfrow, 40, a veteran short track campaigner from Fuquay-Varina, N.C., will drive the No. 61 IWX Motor Freight Chevrolet in the NAPA 250 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race here at the historic Martinsville Speedway. This is a one-race agreement between Renfrow and Xpress Motorsports, the eighth-place team in NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series point standings.

"We've been very impressed with Randy this season," said team manager/crew chief Dave Fuge. "He has ran a number of truck series races and has been consistently fast everywhere. In talking to him about this, I love his enthusiasm and we're looking for a strong run on Saturday."

Xpress Motorsports initially planned on Derrike Cope driving in Saturday's race. Cope will be the team's driver next season in a limited Busch Series, Grand National Division campaign. Commitments with Cope's Winston Cup team - Bahari Racing Gumout No. 30 - resulted in him not being available for the truck series event.

"We consider ourselves very fortunate that Randy is available," continued Fuge. "He has been one of those guys we've all noticed this season. He loves racing at Martinsville and I think he can run up front for us."

Renfrow is a winner of 237 Late Model Sportsman races at 40 different tracks in his storied career. Recently, he has been driving in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series in the Pac-West Racing No. 78 entry. While his best finish is a 16th-place finish, he has qualified very well and ran with the leaders at a lot of races.

"I am extremely excited about this race," said Renfrow. "That IWX truck has been strong everywhere this season. I consider Martinsville my home track and I get around here very well. I can't wait to get in that truck here."

IWX Motor Freight is a Springfield, Mo. based trucking firm having a fleet of 400 trucks. IWX serves 48 states and annually the trucks will log more than 98 million miles.
