F2000: Children's Hospital Grand Prix of Colorado Fact Sheet

WHAT: The Children's Hospital Grand Prix Weekend featuring the final two rounds of the U.S. F2000 National Championship in support of the NTB Trans-Am Series.

WHERE: The 1.34-mile, 11-turn road course/oval is located in Fountain, Colo., 15 miles south of Colorado Springs.

WHEN: September 25-27, 1998

RACE LENGTHS: 37 laps, 49.58 miles

TELEVISION: Both races will be broadcast on a tape-delayed basis on Speedvision. Saturday's race will air Sunday, October 18 at 5:00 p.m. (EDT), with Sunday's race airing Sunday, October 25 at 5:00 p.m. (EST).

TRACK RECORDS: New circuit format for 1998. Qualifying and Race Lap records will be established.

MEDIA NOTES: Originally not scheduled to compete, Australian David Besnard has already clinched the 1998 National Championship and Oval Crown Championships, and will now shoot for the single-season records for both wins (seven, Chris Simmons, 1993) and poles (seven, Steve Knapp, 1996). Besnard has six each. Besnard has already set the single-season marks for points (333) and earnings ($50,750).

Ryan Hampton (275 points), Robby McGehee (247 points) and Andy Lally (206 points) are battling for second and third in the final Championship standings. Top rookies are Marc-Antoine Camirand (186 points, fifth), Bobby Oergel (169 points, seventh) and Jonathan Bottoms (164 points, eighth).
