NHRA: Weickgenannt to Pilot Cavaleri Brothers Nitro Funny Car

25 September 1998

BALTIMORE, MD - Bob Weickgenannt, driver of the B & B Racing nitro Funny Car will team with Lou Cavaleri and the Cavaleri Brothers Racing operation to pilot their entry at the Parts America Nationals in Topeka, KS October 1 - 4. Joining Weickgenannt with the Cavaleris will be B & B Crew Chief Keith Platt. Platt will tune the car while Weickgenannt drives and together they will work with the Cavaleris to put a competitive car down the track at Topeka.

"Lou Cavaleri and Keith Platt have had a long-standing friendship," said Weickgenannt, "they have wanted to work with Keith for some time." "The fact that we werent running our own car at this race gave us the perfect opportunity to let some old friends go racing together. Keith will tune the car and well get down the track with a competitive ride at Topeka."

The teams will work together the week prior to the race preparing the car and driver in anticipation of racing at Topeka. The opportunity to race gives Weickgenannt some additional time in the seat that wasnt anticipated at the beginning of the season. "We planned all along to run a limited schedule this season and Topeka was not an event we were going to run. This gives me a unique opportunity to spend some time in the cockpit that we hadnt expected." Asked if this could become a permanent arrangement, Weickgenannt said; "you never know . . . were putting together our plans for next year and have been discussing many options. Id have to say were in some preliminary discussions for 1999, but were always open to ideas. We want to race a full schedule in 1999, stay tuned!"

After Topeka, Weickgenannt and Platt will get back to the B & B Racing entry at Memphis, TN for the Pennzoil Nationals.
