NASCAR-WCUP: Newts Notes: 'Martinsville Has Been Pretty Good to Us'

27 September 1998

Ted Musgrave
Mooresville, NC -- The racing roots are deep at the Martinsville Speedway, which celebrated its 50th birthday (in 1997) even before NASCAR did this year. For crew chief Newt Moore he enjoys the return twice a year to the .526 mile venue. He enjoys it mainly because he has reaped the benefits of hard work on the semi-flat racing surface. This race he and the rest of the Jasper Motorsports Crew have an even a double reason to be excited.

The battery of the Jasper Motorsports team, this week, has combined to set the track qualifying record (Ted Musgrave, 1994), a second place finish in the spring race (Musgrave) and a pole in the spring of 1997 (Moore as the crew chief for Kenny Wallace.) "We have qualified real well, on the pole and also a top ten. The race track has been good to me." Said Moore. "We are taking a pretty good car there and Ted finished second this year so we have a lot to look forward to. We will put last week behind us and look to build on this week."

Note: Ted Musgrave is filling in for the injured Robert Pressley. Robert broke his right shoulder during a violent accident at Richmond International Raceway on Sept.12. He is on the injured reserve list and will be evaluated on a week to week basis.
