NASCAR-WCUP: Newt's Notes on Charlotte

30 September 1998

Mooresville, NC -- The Charlotte Motor Speedway will host its annual running of the UAW-GM Quality 500 on the first weekend in October. The fall classic is not only one of the most prestigious but is also a great momentum builder going into the home stretch of the Winston Cup Season. Crew Chief Newt Moore is holding his breath as the weekend unfolds.

"There are three phases to this deal and you have to cross the Ts and dot the Is. There is not one part that is more important than the other. They are all three critical. The phases are qualifying, practice for race set-up and the race." Moore commented. "The way that I look at is I hold my breathe for the first phase, then I hold my breathe for the second and for I hold my breathe for the third. Those are the three phases to this sport."

One other major factor is the fact that Robert Pressley should be back in the race car. The chemistry between the two seemed to fit in the short amount of time they worked in conjunction with each other. "I am looking forward to getting Robert back and working on next seasons communication. We had a little bit of a run at Richmond. We got along real well and I am looking forward to it." Said Moore.

The Jasper Motorsports Team was second day fastest qualifier during the Charlotte Race in May and finished 16th for the longest distance race on the schedule.
