NASCAR BGN: Xpress Team to Pit Earnhardt

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - - Xpress Motorsports, the team which fielded the No. 61 IWX Motor Freight NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series = Chevrolet, and Doug Taylor Motorsports, which fields the Channellock Chevrolet on NASCAR's Busch Series, Grand National Division, have joined together for = this weekends All Pro Auto Parts Bumper to Bumper 300 Grand National Race = here at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Kerry Earnhardt, son of seven-time Winston = Cup Champion Dale Earnhardt, will drive the second Channellock entry.

The Xpress Motorsports team will be handling car preparations, maintenance, and pit stops for the third-generation driver. The effort = will use Xpress Motorsports equipment throughout the week.

"We saw this as a great opportunity for us," said Xpress = Motorsports team manager/crew chief Dave Fuge. "We are going Busch Series racing next = season and this will give our guys a chance to get some experience with the = cars. We have a great team here and I know they will do a great job for Doug, = Kerry and everyone connected to this team. =20

Doug Taylor Motorsports will be fielding the Channellock No. 40 = for Kevin Lepage as it usually does at Grand National events. Earnhardt's car = will carry the traditional Channellock colors and the number 04. Earnhardt = has two Grand National division starts this season (23rd-place finish at = Myrtle Beach, 26th-place finish at South Boston).

Xpress Motorsports has announced that the 1999 season will have = it fielding a Busch Series, Grand National Division team for Winston Cup = driver Derrike Cope on a limited (15 - 20 races) basis. The team also has = plans to run a limited Winston Cup schedule (driver and races to be determined).=20

The All-Pro Bumper-to-Bumper 300 will be the first time Xpress Motorsports has competed in anything other than NASCAR Craftsman Truck = Series competition. Although, most of the team members have Grand National or Winston Cup experience.
