F2000: U.S. F2000 Award Winners Honored at Season-Ending Banquet

FAIRFIELD, N.J. (September 28, 1998) =96 The U.S. F2000 National = Championship wrapped-up its 1998 season with its seventh-annual Awards Banquet at the Colorado Springs Sheraton Sunday night.

Australian David Besnard took the lions share of the awards, including = the National and Oval Crown Championships. Marc-Antoine Camirand and Bobby Oergel were named Rookies of the Year for the National Championship and = Oval Crown Championship respectively.

The award winners are:

  • National Championship Runner-Up: Ryan Hampton, Glendora, Calif., No. = 88 American Instruments/Body Abuse Tatuus Ford

  • National Championship Rookie of the Year: Marc-Antoine Camirand, Trois-Rivieres, Que., Can., No. 96 Key Tours/Player's Van Diemen Ford
  • Crew Chief of the Year: Charlie Perrault, No. 13 Primus Racing Karts = Van Diemen Ford
  • Engineer of the Year: John Hayes, No. 13 Primus Racing Karts Van = Diemen Ford

For winning the National Championship, Besnard receives the Career = Options Package valued at $100,000, including: a test in A.J. Foyt's IRL car, a = test in a KOOL/Toyota Atlantic Car, financial assistance in either Atlantics = or the Dayton/PPG Indy Lights Championship and a full factory ride in the = Slick 50 Formula Ford World Finals at Brands Hatch, October 23-25.
