NTB Trans-Am: Gentilozzi on Pole for Houston Race

2 October 1998

HOUSTON -- Paul Gentilozzi scored his ninth pole of the year in qualifying for Saturday's 60-lap, 91.62-mile NTB Trans-Am Series season finale on the streets of Houston.

Gentilozzi, of Lansing, Mich., posted a 1:11.436 (76.952 mph) to front the 34-car field, while Brian Simo was second fastest, followed by Bill Saunders, Ross Thompson and Chris Neville.

"We didn't take any chances in qualifying, but we wanted to leave our mark," said Gentilozzi. "I love this race track ^ most of my poles have come on street circuits. This is a skill track, and you have to really know the limitations of your car."

Saturday's NTB Trans-Am race starts at 4:30 p.m. EDT and will be televised with same-day tape-delayed coverage on The Speedvision Network beginning at 8:00 p.m. EDT.
