LASOSKI LOWERS SPEED RECORD BEFORE RAIN

BLOOMINGTON, IN (September 30, 1998) - Danny "The Dude" Lasoski rewrote Bloomington Speedway's one lap speed record during Pennzoil World Of Outlaws qualifying Wednesday night. Driving the Beef Packers Eagle for Dennis Roth, Lasoski's first qualifying circuit of 9.960 seconds was just a warm-up for his blistering record lap of 9.672. This circuit was more than .1 second quicker than the 9.780 lap by Stevie Smith in June of 1996. Qualifying laps at Bloomington Speedway are the quickest laps the Outlaws will turn at any track.

Unfortunately, an early evening rain shower began while the Outlaws sprint cars were time-trialing, making the track dangerously slippery. The Pennzoil World of Outlaws officials determined that after the rain quit, and after the track was prepared, all of the cars would have to requalify. With weekend races in Pennsylvania beginning on Friday, and consideration for the residential area around the speedway, the Outlaws officials elected to postpone the race one week. The Pennzoil World of Outlaws series will return to Bloomington on Thursday, October 8, for their fourth attempt to complete this event.

All grandstand gates will open for the Pennzoil World of Outlaws at 4:30 pm, on October 8. Ticket stubs from September 30 (or June 12, or July 15, 1998) will be honored. General admission tickets will be on sale for $25. Pit admission is $30, the pit gate will open at 3 pm. Fans 12 and under will be charged $5 when accompanying an adult. Hot laps and qualifying begin at 6:30. The open wheel modified division will compete for $500 to win.
