NHRA: Bazemore Racing Crew Members Remain Positive and Loyal

6 October 1998

Rob Flynn, crew chief on Whit Bazemore's Team Winston Chevrolet Camaro Z28 Funny Car, stated this weekend that he and the other seven crew members will remain with the team beyond Bazemore's self-imposed deadline of Labor Day and the U.S. Nationals.

After Winston's announcement on July 17 that it would not sponsor a Funny Car team in 1999, Bazemore asked his crew to give him until Labor Day to secure a major sponsor for the 1999 season and beyond so that the Indianapolis-based team would remain intact. Although a sponsor has not yet been signed, Bazemore is negotiating with several companies and is confident that a primary sponsor will soon come on board.

"Our goal is to keep everyone together," said Flynn. "It is a tribute to every member of the team that each of them would rather stay together than go on individually and find jobs. The bottom line is that we have a competitive group of guys who work very well together and we want to keep it this way. We continue to support Whit's quest to find a sponsor and will remain with him for as long as we can."

"There is no more talented or loyal crew than mine," said Bazemore. "I am extremely proud of them and their accomplishments. I'd really hate to see them split up. We're working 24 hours a day, seven days a week, in our search for a major corporate sponsor."
