All Star Sprint Banquet Set for Dec. 4 in Indianapolis

PONCE INLET, FL - Its time to honor the 1998 All Star sprint car championship team of driver Kenny Jacobs and owners Tim and Jean Hughes. The place is the Crown Plaza Hotel at Union Station in downtown Indianapolis. And the date is Friday night, Dec. 4.

The banquet for 1998 will be held in conjunction with the annual Performance Racing Industry (PRI) Trade Show, held for the first time in Indianapolis after being held in the past in Columbus, Ohio. Topping the list of awards for 1998 is the presentation of the General Motors All Star Pace Truck, a 1998 Silverado Turbo Diesel pickup truck, to owner Tim Hughes. Also presented will be the Georgia Marketing and Promotions Rookie-of-the-year award, Bo-Link Crew Chief of the year and the ButlerBuilt Hot Seat pole position champion.

Point fund monies and many contingency prizes will be presented to the top point owners and drivers, plus other special awards will be presented.

All Star Sprints Are Busy in Feb. 1999

PONCE INLET, FL - The All Star sprint cars will kick off their 20th anniversary season in typical fashion, opening with races in the state of Florida in February. But things will be different than they have been in past years.

The season opens with four events at Dick Murphys Volusia Raceway Park in Barberville, Thursday, Feb. 4 through Sunday, Feb 7. Traditionally, the series opened on a Wednesday, but for 1999 a Thursday opener is set at the facility located near Daytona.

Following four complete shows at Volusia, the series packs up and heads across the state to the East Bay Raceway in Gibsonton on Feb 10-13, near Tampa. This will be the 23rd annual East Bay Winternationals, but the first under the direction of new East Bay track manager Tommy Hall. The $123,000 four-day event pays $10,000 to the winner of Saturday nights final feature. Complete shows are scheduled all four nights, with practice and media day on Tuesday.
