USAC and Coors Light Announce Sponsorship

11 October 1998

LAS VEGAS -- Coors Brewing Company and the United States Auto Club today revealed a new multi-year marketing partnership beginning with the 1999 racing season. Coors Light will become the title sponsor of the USAC Silver Crown Championship Series, which will be known as the Coors Light Silver Bullet Series.

"The United States Auto Club is excited about entering into this new partnership with Coors. Their track record in sports marketing makes them one of the best organizations to work with," said John Capels, president of USAC. "The USAC Silver Crown Series has experienced tremendous growth recently, visiting new market areas and attracting some of the best driving talent and fans in the country. We believe Coors is coming on board at a perfect time, and that this partnership will produce accelerated growth for the series."

Finishing touches are still being applied to the 1999 Coors Light Silver Bullet Series schedule, but the season will open at the Walt Disney World Speedway near Orlando, Fla. on January 23, as part of the Pep Boys Indy Racing League's "Indy 200" weekend. The 1999 schedule tentatively calls for 13 races, while discussions are ongoing for an additional event.

The Coors announcement, which also includes an increased involvement in the Pep Boys Indy Racing League, took place at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, where the IRL will conclude their season Sunday. Current Silver Crown points leader and IRL rookie Brian Tyler plans to compete in Sunday's event after defending his narrow Silver Crown lead in Sacramento, Calif. this evening.
