Russell Pro: Loven Takes Series Title

Paul Beregszaszy of Phoenix, Ariz. captured Sunday's Yokohama Russell/USAC "Triple Crown" Pro Series finale at Sears Point Raceway in Sonoma, Calif. He took the lead when Tyler McQuarrie was sidelined after lap 14 and led the final eight laps around the 1.95-mile circuit for his first series triumph in the Yamazen/HB Formula Russell Machine.

Niklas Loven of Vaxjo, Sweden emerged as the 1998 USAC Russell "Triple Crown" champion with his second-place finish in Sunday's race. Peter Ponder Pistor of Manhattan Beach, Calif., Doug Sorensen of Laguna Niguel, Calif. and Ken Snyder of San Andreas, Calif. rounded out the "top-five" at the finish.

McQuarrie, who clinched the 1998 USAC Formula Russell title September 27 at Sears Point, won the pole starting spot and led the first 14 laps before retiring from competition.
