NOTES AND QUOTES:
"This is the same Goodyear Eagle tire recommendation that was raced during both races last year in Daytona as well as at this years Daytona 500," said Tony Freund, Goodyears lead engineer for stock cars. This setup is very similar to the tires used at the only other restrictor-plate speedway - Talladega. However, each tire has been fine-tuned to meet the varying demands unique to both speedways. Freund expects another, "consistently strong performance from this proven setup." Goodyear engineers attended an open test session in early June to monitor tire performance under night conditions. Mike Skinner and Rusty Wallace posted the fastest speeds, in excess of 189 mph, among those drivers in attendance. Based on the results, an excellent race is anticipated, not unlike this years Daytona 500 which ran under cloudy skies. "The cooler track temperatures for this night race should give way to tight groups of cars jockeying for position that otherwise would not be possible under the slippery conditions that exist under the Florida sun," explained Freund.

DID YOU KNOW?
The inaugural year of the Pepsi 400, in 1989, is the same year Goodyear introduced its new Eagle radial race tire, making the bias-ply tire uncompetitive and obsolete. Radialization of the Winston Cup circuit was completed in 1992 when the tire was used at every Winston Cup race that season.
