"We are bringing essentially the same Goodyear Eagle race recommendation that we used at Phoenix International Raceway in 1997. The slight modification, which was made for all short tracks, lies in the left side tires," said Tony Freund, Goodyears lead engineer, stock cars. The adjustment was first tested at Phoenix in 1996 and again in 1997, before official introduction in the 1998 Winston Cup season.
"The high-speed, fender-rubbing, paint-swapping action of Phoenix International Raceway poses a formidable challenge for the Eagle racing radials. The tires were specifically developed to endure the grinding and abuse of the heavy action on this exceptionally flat track," said Phil Holmer, Goodyears marketing manager, stock cars.

using 24 tire codes for all NASCAR Winston Cup, Busch Grand National and
Craftsman Truck Series events during the 1998 season.
