KARTING, BUSINESS: WKA and The Skip Barber Racing School Form Marketing Partnership

23 October 1998

LAKEVILLE, Conn. - The Skip Barber Racing School and the World Karting Association (WKA) have signed a multi-year promotional and marketing partnership.

The agreement gives the Skip Barber Racing School exclusive rights as the "Official Racing and Driving School of the World Karting Association." The relationship also includes advertising, marketing and promotional opportunities between the two organizations.

"Our partnership with the World Karting Association is consistent with our goal of helping young drivers progress in racing," said Skip Barber, president of the Skip Barber Racing School. "The WKA is one of the leading forces in Karting and we look forward to a long and mutually beneficial relationship."

The partnership furthers the Skip Barber Racing School's ties to Karting. The Skip Barber Racing Karting Scholarship annually awards $150,000 to the top drivers in kart racing.

This year, Karting scholarships were awarded to Phil Giebler, Ryan Hunter-Reay, Eric Jones and Michael Valiante. Each received a season of competition in the Skip Barber Formula Dodge Race Series. The coordinator of the Skip Barber Racing Karting Scholarship is Hollis Brown, one of the most respected and influential people in Karting.

The Karting program is part of the annual $1 million Skip Barber Scholarship Ladder that helps young drivers progress from Karting to the CART FedEx Championship Series. The Karting scholarship program is open to any kart racer.
