NHRA, BUSINESS: Change Announced For Vandergriff Motorsports

23 October 1998

Alpharetta, Ga. - - Bob Vandergriff, Jr., owner of Vandergriff Motorsports and driver of the JERZEES Activewear Top Fuel Dragster, has announced that crew chief Rick Cassel will not be retained for the 1999 season. Plans call for Cassel to continue in his current capacity through the Winston Finals, November 12-15, at Pomona, Calif.

"The goals and direction that were established for the 98 season have not been met," said Vandergriff. "A new direction is necessary. As a result I feel it is in the best interest of Vandergriff Motorsports and JERZEES Activewear that we make a change in crew chief for the 1999 season - - a change that we see injecting new and exciting possibilities for not only next year but for future years.

"Rick Cassel has been a dedicated and loyal employee since joining our program two years ago and I wish him well in future endeavors," added Vandergriff.

Vandergriff has had discussions with several individuals regarding the position and an announcement should be forthcoming in the very near future.
