NOTES AND QUOTES:
"Our Fontana race recommendation is a variation of our highly competitive U.S. 500 setup introduced at Michigan Speedway in July. This setup incorporates a new compound recommendation which will provide improved grip and wear resistance," said Steve Orlando, Goodyears CART operations manager.

"Our U.S. 500 Eagle recommendation helped place both Michael Andretti and Gil de Ferran in contention to win, until a pit infraction and an engine problem ended their chances for victory. Given both of their strong performances on the U.S. 500 setup and the modifications we have incorporated specifically for this circuit, we are confident that this recommendation will place us in an excellent position to finish the season where we started - in the winners circle," added Orlando.

DRIVER QUOTE:
Gil de Ferran, #5 Valvoline/Cummins, Reynard Honda, Walker Racing "The U.S. 500 was the most exciting race of the year for me. Even though we didnt finish, we were right in the middle of things all day. The driving and the competition, the way you would go back and forth so quickly and with such frequency, was incredible. After a Goodyear tire test last month, I expect a similar-type of race, but perhaps not as many outside passes, due to the lower degree of banking in the turns."

ESTIMATED NUMBER OF PIT STOPS:
Approximately every 35 laps (estimates based on fuel consumption).
