ALLSTAR: All Stars Raise 1999 Purses

PONCE INLET, FL - With the All Star Circuit of Champions sprinters celebrating their 20th anniversary season in 1999, the Board of Directors has approved some exciting changes. The biggest news is a $3,400 purse increase, bringing a one-day show to $5,000 to win and $1,000 for tenth. A two-day show basic purse has been set up paying $4,000 to win the first day and $7,000 the second day. In addition, several $10,000 to win races are on the All Star card.According to All Star president Bert Emick, "Our purse has to increase in 1999 to help create new full-time teams as well as keep the many teams going who have raced with us in the past. Fans and promoters want to see some new names competing against the regulars. In the last few years we've added money mostly to the back of the pay-off, but it's time to increase the front and middle positions." Several new teams have already shown interest in following the All Stars in 1999. In 1998, 63 races were run in fifteen states with about 250 teams competing.
One important change in chassis construction requires roll cages to be a minimum .095 thickness, top and bottom rail. Chassis top rail must be at least 1 1/2" in diameter, bottom rail at least 1 3/8" diameter. In another change, twenty additional yellow flag laps will be run at all shows to help eliminate unpopular fuel stops.
The 1999 All Star event schedule is now in the planning stages. Eight nights of racing will kick off the 1999 season in Florida, with four nights at Volusia Speedway Park from February 4-8, and four nights at East Bay Raceway from February 11-14, culminating in a $10,000 to win finale at East Bay.
