NASCAR-SWT: Spangler Running At Vegas

4 November 1998

Corona, CA. -- Keith Spangler started racing as soon as California law would let him. At age 16 he followed in his grandfather and father's footsteps and began his career at Saugus Speedway. He spent five seasons learning the ropes of racing in the Sportsman Division at Saugus until 1993, when he purchased a Southwest Tour car. Keith made a wise decision to run his first Southwest Tour race at his hometown track. He knew every inch of that track and consequently went home with a third place finish among a tough crowd of competitors. Keith finished his Rookie Year a very respectable 6th in points.

In 1995 Keith managed to land a large primary sponsor for his Tour car which allowed him to focus on simply driving the car for nearly three full seasons -- obviously a racer's dream.

Well, now it's the end of 1998 and things are once again looking great for tour veteran, Keith Spangler. He has two third place finishes at El Cajon and Altamont and a title sponsor, Lucas Oil Products, for the last few races of the season. Last week at Phoenix he had a strong run going in his #37 Lucas Oil Monte Carlo until he got caught up in a front stretch pile up. "it was disappointing," said Keith, "We had a good car. Now, we're just refocusing and setting our goals high for Las Vegas." The 1.5 mile track will stage an exciting show on November 7th to wrap up the 1998 Featherlite Southwest Tour Season.
