TRACK: Martinsville Speedways Souvenir Day December 12

8 November 1998

Martinsville, VA----Racing souvenirs, an Allison Legacy Series race, and a toy collection will all be part of the fifth annual Souvenir Day at Martinsville Speedway on Saturday, December 12. Winston Cup souvenir trailers, including the vendor for 1998 Winston Cup Champion Jeff Gordon, will sell items in the .526-mile tracks pit area from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Souvenirs also will be available from the trailers of Dale Earnhardt, Jeff Gordon, Rusty Wallace, Dale Jarrett, Dale Earnhardt, Jr., Bill Elliott, Realtree, Martinsville Speedway and others. Souvenir Day is a great time to purchase year-end bargains and pick up gifts for Christmas. Souvenir trailers sell jackets, T-shirts, caps, collectibles and many other items that may be difficult to find except at a NASCAR Winston Cup event.

The Allison Legacy Series will run a 30-lap race beginning at 1 p.m. An Allison Legacy car is a three-quarter-scale stock car resembling a Winston Cup Series car. Kenny, Ronald and Donald Allison, sons of retired Winston Cup driver Donnie Allison, started the series in 1996. The Allison brothers produce Thunderbird and Monte Carlo body styled cars powered by four-cylinder Mazda 2200cc engines that produces about 120 horsepower. Shoppers also can help needy children by bringing a new unwrapped toy to be collected by the speedway in the infield media center. Martinsville Speedway will give the toys to the Henry County Baptist Association to be distributed to less fortunate children in Martinsville and Henry County. Admission for the entire day, including the race, is free, but everyone is encouraged to donate a new unwrapped toy.

Tickets are now on sale for the 1999 NASCAR Winston Cup races at Martinsville Speedway. The Goody's Headache Powder 500 is Sunday, April 18, and the NAPA AutoCare 500 is Sunday, October 3.
