NASCAR BGN: Elvis Sighting in Homestead, Florida

11 November 1998

Homestead, FL -- It has been confirmed that Elvis has been spotted in Homestead, Florida.

No, not Elvis - the King of Rock and Roll, but Elvis - the No. 37 Timber Wolf Chevrolet Monte Carlo that Mark Green is driving in the Jiffy Lube Miami 300 NASCAR Busch Series race at Miami-Dade Homestead Motorsports Complex on November 15.

Elvis, the car Green named in February before it made its debut at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, will make its sixth appearance of the 1998 season. Green also drove Elvis at New Hampshire International Speedway, Nazareth Speedway, Milwaukee Mile and Richmond International Raceway.

"We had a brand new car which we planned to debut in Las Vegas," explained Green. "When I think of Las Vegas, I think of Elvis Presley. He also starred in one of the best racing movies ever, Speedway. It seemed like a perfect fit."

Green has enjoyed great success in qualifying while driving Elvis, recording one top five and three top 10 starts in five races.

"We struggled with Elvis a little bit on long runs, but we made a few changes to the car which will definitely help," said Green. "Plus, I'll be wearing my blue suede Simpson racing shoes."
