NASCAR BGN: Pilot Teams up with Two Winners for Busch Finale in Homestead

13 November 1998

HOMESTEAD, Fla., -- Two driving forces in each of their respective areas of motorsports are teaming up for the Nov. 15th running of the NASCAR Busch Series, Grand National Division season-finale at the Miami- Dade Homestead Motorsports Complex.

Ed Whitaker, one of the winningest car owners in the Busch Series, will field the No. 7 Pilot Chevrolet Monte Carlo for Freddie Query in this weekend's Jiffy Lube Miami 300.

"Freddie is one of the most talented race car drivers I've seen in quite a while," said Whitaker. "I'm extremely excited to be a part of his effort this coming weekend in the Busch Series."

With four poles, nine victories, 13 top-five finishes and 14 top-10 finishes Query has clinched the 1998 NASCAR Slim Jim All Pro Series Championship in commanding style. After dominating the series this year, he secured his place as one of NASCAR's 1998 Series Champions, by simply sending in the entry blank for the season-ending All Pro event.

"Having such a prominent figure in NASCAR like Ed Whitaker behind my Busch Series effort this weekend means so much," said Query. "To end my season like this is very special.

"I just need some seat time in these type cars," said Query. "Getting accustomed to the radial tires will be the biggest adjustment for me, not to mention these cars are almost 500 lbs. heavier than what I normally drive. "I'm just excited to have this opportunity," stated Query.

Supporting Whitaker Racing and Freddie Query in their Busch Series effort this weekend will be Pilot, a product of Pilot Automotive and a division of
