NHRA: Jim Dunn Racing Announces New Sponsor for 1999

16 November 1998

LOS ANGELES -- Jim Dunn Racing announced today that PENTHOUSE magazine, a publication celebrating its 30th Anniversary next year, will be the primary sponsor on their Pontiac Firebird Funny Car for the 1999 NHRA season. Kelly Magrath, 26, of LaJolla, Calif., who has nine years of experience in motorsports, has been named as their driver on the 22-event Winston championship tour.

"This is a tremendous opportunity for our race program and something weve been working on for quite a long time," said team owner and crew chief Jim Dunn. "This is the kind of sponsorship that catapults your program to the next level and we look forward to doing everything we can to help promote PENTHOUSE magazine during their anniversary celebration.

"Starting in January, well be doing extensive testing in preparation for the new race season. Our goal is to make the PENTHOUSE magazine Pontiac competitive at the very first race and put ourselves in a position to contend for the Winston championship. Weve had quite a bit of success in the last two seasons running on a limited budget and now well be able to give some of these guys a real run for their money."

Jim Dunn has been involved in NHRA drag racing as a driver, crew chief and car owner since 1950. During the last two years, he was chief tuner for a team that saw two different rookie drivers win national events. In 1997, Dunns team won the Mopar Parts Nationals at Englishtown and then went on to win the $100,000 Big Bud Shootout at Indianapolis. This season, Dunns program won back-to- back events at the Pontiac Excitement Nationals in Columbus, Ohio, and the Sears Craftsman Nationals in Madison, Ill.
