SCCA: Speedvision World Challenge Slates Initial Six-Race Schedule

Additional Races to be AnnouncedENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- SCCA Pro Racing has announced its initial six-race schedule for the 1999 Speedvision World Challenge, with up to four more venues to be added soon.
Along with its new title sponsorship from Speedvision and new class designations, the 1999 Speedvision World Challenge"North Americas premier production-based road racing series" will also feature separate races for the World GT and Touring classes at most of its venues.
The Speedvision World Challenge kicks off the season at Mosport Park, May 21-23, and concludes in late September/October at a venue to-be-announced. The schedule as now slated will feature two races on temporary street circuits, one race at an oval/road course and three traditional, natural terrain venues. The four other venues anticipated to be announced are also natural-terrain circuits.
"With our new title sponsorship backing from Speedvision..and the continued support of BFGoodrich Tires, the World Challenge schedule will be expanded for 1999 to include additional and significant markets," said Dan Greenwood, SCCA Pro Racing Chief Administrative Officer. "Our goal was to find the best mix of racetracks that would offer the Speedvision World Challenge strong exposure in major markets on top road racing weekends, while maintaining a balance in circuit configurations between the street circuits, arena-style road course/oval and natural terrain venues."
The Mosport Park season opener marks a return to Canadas historic circuit after a one-year layoff, and is followed by the Memorial Day weekend road racing extravaganza at Lime Rock Park, May 27-31. Round Three will be at Road America, July 9-11, followed by the series second Canadian venue, Trois-Rivieres, July 30-August 1.
The Speedvision World Challenge will again take to the streets of Grand Rapids, Mich., for the West Michigan Grand Prix for Round Five, August 27-29, followed by the oval/road course at Pikes Peak International Raceway in Fountain, Colo., September 17-19, with the season finale to follow in late September or October.
"With more than 30 different car models expected to race in 1999, having a wide variety of racetracks is an important factor in balancing the competition," said Mitch Wright, World Challenge Technical Director. "With this schedule the Speedvision World Challenge will compete at every kind of racing track..from tight street circuits to high-speed road courses..and be featured on premier road racing weekends in most of the countrys major markets."
