CART: Emerson Fittipaldi and SBT Renew

Rio 400 More Than Just a Race in 1999Miami, Fla. - Emerson Fittipaldi and SBT have renewed the contract that gives the station exclusive rights to transmit all CART races.
The CART race in Rio, which will be held on May 15th at 1:00 PM Brazilian local time will be live, along with the Japan and Australia races. All other races will be shown at 11:00 PM Brazilian time, right after Silvio Santos' Sunday program.
Besides having the rights for television transmission of all CART races for Brazil, Emerson has recently become the promoter for the Rio Race, where he plans to hold a week- long event instead of only one race day, transforming the race into a social and cultural event, in order to attract international investors.
Emerson has been active in CART for the last 14 years. Drawing on his vast experience, Emerson wants to give Brazil, in partnership with SBT, the best of the ideas and initiatives garnered from the many different races in which he participated.
