CART to Offer 'Sneak Preview' at Homestead

Detroit, MI- Championship Auto Racing Teams will offer a sneak preview of the upcoming 1999 FedEx Championship Series season with its fourth annual Spring Training scheduled for Feb. 2-4 at the Miami-Dade Homestead Motorsports Complex in Homestead, Fla.

The three-day event will kick off Tuesday, Feb. 2 with Media Day and will be followed by extensive test days Wednesday, Feb. 3 and Thursday, Feb. 4 of the 1999 Champ Car packages on Homestead's 1.502-mile oval track. Spring Training serves as a tune-up for the season-opening Marlboro Grand Prix of Miami Presented by Toyota on Sunday, March 21 (ABC-TV) at the Homestead complex.

All of the 1999 FedEx Championship Series season entries are scheduled to attend Spring Training. The contingent, which could consist of 30 full-time drivers, will be led by former series champions Michael Andretti of Newman/Haas Racing, Al Unser Jr. of Marlboro Team Penske and Jimmy Vasser of Target/Chip Ganassi Racing as well as rising stars Dario Franchitti of Team KOOL Green, Greg Moore of Player's Forsythe Racing, Bryan Herta of Team Rahal, Adrian Fernandez of Patrick Racing and Tony Kanaan of Tasman Motorsports.

The FedEx Championship Series teams will unveil their 1999 Champ Car packages Wednesday, Feb. 3 and Thursday, Feb. 4 with 11 hours of testing. The teams will test daily with morning sessions scheduled from 9-11:45 a.m. and afternoon sessions set for 1:15-4 p.m. Practice times and pit notes will be distributed and post-practice press conferences will be held each test day.

Fans of the FedEx Championship Series who plan to attend the test days will be presented with a unique opportunity. For $14.99, each person will receive a general admission ticket for both days of testing and also a one-year membership for the CART's Winner's Circle Club. The membership includes more than $250 in discounts and values as well as access to members-only functions such as club meetings that feature series drivers and/or owners at each event. At Spring Training, members will receive a special pit tour and a Winner's Circle Club meeting with a FedEx Championship Series driver.
