SCCA: Ten Venues Set for '99 BF Goodrich Trans-Am Series

ENGLEWOOD, Colo.--Ten venues for the 1999 BFGoodrich Tires Trans-Am Series have been set, with the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach kicking off the series 34th season, April 16-18. Up to four additional dates may be added soon.The schedule for North Americas longest-running road racing series as now slated includes five temporary street circuits, one oval/road course and four traditional road racing tracks. Following the Long Beach opener, the Trans-Am heads north of the border to Mosport Park in Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada, for the traditional May 21-23 Victoria Day holiday weekend.
Round Three will be contested during the Lime Rock Park Memorial Day weekend Dodge Dealers Grand Prix road racing extravaganza, May 27-31, with the series 21st visit to the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course up next, June 4-6. For Round Five the Trans-Am travels to Elkhart Lake, Wis., for the Texaco/Havoline 200 weekend at Road America, July 9-10, the second of four weekends sharing the billing with the CART FedEx Championship Series.
Le Grand Prix Players de Trois-Rivieres in Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, Canada, July 30-August 1, is next, followed by the Tenneco Detroit Grand Prix, August 6-7, and the second annual West Michigan Grand Prix in Grand Rapids, Mich., August 27-29.
Pikes Peak International Raceway in Fountain, Colo., will host Round Nine, September 17-19, with the CART-headlined Texaco Houston Grand Prix scheduled for Round 10, September 24-25.
"We want to put together a schedule that offers the best balance of major markets, top road racing weekends and variety of circuits," said Scott Rittinger, Trans-Am Series General Manager. "We are working diligently to announce our remaining race dates, and these first 10 venues and weekends provide a solid foundation for the 1999 season. Were also developing some significant programs to support our fans, sponsors, promoters, competitors and manufacturers its going to be an exciting season for the Trans-Am."
The remaining venues/dates, including the season finale, will be released as soon details are available.
