NHRA: Etchells, Superwinch Ink Extension for 1999

4 December 1998

Putnam, Conn - Officials at Superwinch, Inc., maker of the world's most popular electric and hydraulic winches, today announced that they had extended their associate sponsorship of Chuck Etchells and his Kendall Oil/Superwinch Camaro Z28 Nitro Funny Car through the 1999 season. This will mark the 14th year that the Connecticut-based manufacturer has backed the Etchells Racing entry in the NHRA's Winston Drag Racing Series.

"Chuck Etchells has been an outstanding ambassador for both Superwinch and the sport of drag racing," said Chuck Thompson, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Superwinch. "We are extremely proud to continue our association with the entire Chuck Etchells Racing team, and are looking forward to big things in 1999 both on and off the track."

Etchells, 44, who is best known for being the first Funny Car pilot to break the four-second barrier, is coming off another stellar season. The Putnam, Connecticut native posted his seventh consecutive Top Five finish in the National Hot Rod Association's (NHRA)Winston Points standings, and equaled his previous single-season best with three victories, including a thrilling win in the Winston Finals in Pomona. In addition, he set a new personal mark for elimination round wins, and held the points for the first time in his career, a feat he accomplished twice in 1998. An accomplished businessman off the track, Etchells recognizes the significance of maintaining a relationship with a long-time supporter like Superwinch.

"Chuck Etchells Racing values every one of our sponsors, but the long-term alliance we have with Superwinch is something special, because they have been with me throughout my career" stated Etchells. "We are proud to carry their name on our Kendall/Superwinch Camaro Funny Car, and very glad to have Superwinch as the winch of choice in our race transporter."
