IRL: Rain Delays Final Day of Pennzoil Rookie Tests

5 December 1998

Fort Worth, Texas -- The rain that began yesterday ending Ryan Newman's Pep Boys IRL rookie test continued into the early morning hours before the sun finally started coming through at 9 a.m. today. As of noon local time the track was still fairly wet in turn two and hopes of running today have grown dim due to a previous track activity that requires the testing to be completed by 2:30 p.m.

If the Pennzoil Panther G Force is able to be run today, Jac Haudenschild will be first behind the wheel followed by David Donohue.

Yesterday, Tony Elliott and Jay Drake earned Pep Boys IRL licenses.

Ryan Newman was on the final phase of this test when the rains came. IRL executive Brian Barnhart has given Newman the okay for an IRL license as long as he completes the final 10 laps of his test either privately or at an IRL race weekend.
