7 December 1998

Annual EMPA Convention Set for January 8-10 in Trevose, PA

TREVOSE, PA -- More than 150 media, members of the Eastern Motorsport Press Association, are expected to be part of the annual EMPA Convention at the Radisson Hotel & Conference Center in Trevose, PA (north of Philadelphia). The three day convention runs from January 8 thru January 10.

The Eastern Motorsport Press Association, founded in 1969, includes more than 250 journalists, photographers and broadcasters who cover motor sports of all types on a regular basis.

The convention will include a full slate of press conferences featuring presentations by a number of race teams, organizations and speedways. A couple of sponsorship announcements are expected to be part of the weekend activities. In addition there will be seminars and workshops that allow members to improve their skills.

Robby Unser, Indy Racing League Rookie of the Year, will be on hand, to talk about his season and his plans. The ARCA Bondo/Mar-Hyde Series will be represented along with Jeff Simmons representing Barber Dodge Racing Series. The United Racing Club will partipate along with Pocono Raceway, Nazareth Speedway, Grandview Speedway, Tosco, STP, Performance Racing Industry Magazine, National Hot Rod Association, NASCAR and others. Several other well known names in the sport will be on hand to share their plans.

Six of the greats from yesteryear will be inducted into the EMPA Hall of Fame. Awards will be presented to the National and Northeast Driver of the Year plus a number of other special awards.

Speedways and sanctioning orgnizations are invited to participate in the Eastern Motorsport Press Association convention.

"This gives particpants in the convention to reach the motorsports media, those media who will be anxious to hear from you and use the information. Each year we invited local and regional speedways to participate with little response. It is a great way to get information out to the fans via the motorsports media," said EMPA president, Ernie Saxton.
