Formula One: Construction for U.S. Grand Prix Begins Monday at Indy

19 December 1998

IMS Tower Terrace Stands to be Removed
For Construction of Formula One Garages

INDIANAPOLIS: Bovis Construction Corp., in conjunction with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, will begin demolition of sections 1 through 25 of the Tower Terrace stands, making way for 36 pitside garages and suites for the U.S. Grand Prix at Indianapolis. The removal process will last approximately two months.

Temporary stands will be installed for both the Indianapolis 500 and the Brickyard 400 in 1999. The configuration of the temporary seating will be identical to that of the Tower Terrace -- each section, row, seat and view will remain exactly the same as in past years.

The demolition project is the beginning of a long list of changes to be made at Indy in preparation for the U.S. Grand Prix Formula One race. Formula One teams will race in Indianapolis for the first time in the year 2000.
