COLUMBUS, Ohio -- CART FedEx Championship Series competitors Team Rahal have teamed up with The Kroger Company to help needy Columbus families during the holidays.

The Columbus-based Championship Car team has donated 250 die-cast race cars to Kroger for The Salvation Army's Christmas Cheer program, which provides meals and toys for needy local families during the holidays. Three-time PPG Cup Champion and two-time Driver of the Year Bobby Rahal made the donation to Kroger President Bruce Lucia at the company's Bethel Road store in northwest Columbus during Kroger and The Salvation Army's Celebrity Bellringer event Wednesday evening. Ohio State University football coach John Cooper and two-time Heisman Trophy winner Archie Griffin also took part in the effort.

"When I was growing up, my favorite toys were race cars," said Rahal. "There was nothing like the thrill of getting a shiny new one. Through this donation, I'm hoping we can bring that same kind of excitement to some great Columbus kids on Christmas morning." "Kroger always has been such a strong supporter of worthwhile causes in the Columbus community," Rahal added, "and they've been a big supporter of mine and the team's over the years. We're happy to be able to partner with them in this important program to make the holidays a little happier for some of our needy neighbors."

Team Rahal is a franchise member of Championship Auto Racing Teams (CART). Owned by three-time CART champion Bobby Rahal and CBS LATE SHOW host David Letterman, the team fields a pair of Championship Cars for drivers Bryan Herta and Max Papis in the 20-race CART FedEx Championship Series. Headquartered in Hilliard, Ohio, the 65-member team enjoys primary sponsorship from Miller Brewing Company and Shell Oil Products Company.
