SPRINT: Civil War Adds Race
24 December 1998
ROSEVILLE,CA- An additional date has been added to the 1999 Hoosier Racing Tires California Sprint Car Civil War Race Series with Twin Cities Speedway Promoter Mel Hall adding an additional Civil War event at his Marysville quarter-mile on Saturday, July 3.The added event to the upcoming Civil War season brings the 1999 campaign up to the 13 mark in an exciting series that recently inked a $20,000 sponsorship deal with Hoosier Racing Tires. The three-year contract signed by series promoter John Padjen will more than double the Civil War championship fund this season, a bank roll which is awarded accordingly to the top ten drivers in the series at the conclusion of the 13-race campaign.
In addition to the July 3 date, Twin Cities Speedway will be home to the opening round of the 1999 Civil War Series on Saturday March 20. The series returns to the Marysville track on June 12 and once again on October 2 for the 13th and final segment of the series. Petaluma Speedway is host to two Civil War dates for the 1999 championship run. The 3/8 mile dirt oval will host the competitive 360 sprint cars on Saturday April 24 and once again on July 24. In addition to Petaluma, track promoter John Soares will host a solo War event at his Antioch Speedway as well on August 14th.
Placerville Speedway will host a total of three Civil War events. The first visit the series will make to the sierra foothills will take place on May 1. The second and third appearances at Alan Padjen's 1/4 mile will follow on July 31 and September 25. Silver Dollar Speedway will also hold three Civil War Dates in the season to come. The high banked oval on the Silver Dollar Fairground in Chico will be the grounds for Civil War battles on May 30, July 16 and Wednesday, September 15. The final Chico event will be the third annual Pacific Sprint Cup Invitational which will accommodate the top 32 drivers in Civil War points and will open the annual Gold Cup Race of Champions featuring the World of Outlaws.
As they have in the past, all of the speedways participating in the Civil War Series will operate under a "lights out" program on Civil War dates. To simplify this term when one of the participating tracks is hosting a Civil War event, the other four tracks participating on the 1999 series will not sanction 360 sprint car events. This allows competitors to compete in this ever popular series and still permits them to race at their hometown tracks for championship events.
