USRRC: Five Race 1999 USRRC Schedule Announced

ENGLEWOOD, Colo.--The United States Road Racing Championship has announced its five-race 1999 schedule, kicking off its second season with the 1999 Rolex 24 At Daytona, January 29-31, and concluding October 1-3 at Watkins Glen.The five races, two at oval/road courses and three at traditional road racing venues, will feature a mix of 24-hour, six-hour and two- or three-hour sprint races. Following the Daytona opener, Round Two, a co-featured event with the BFGoodrich Tires Trans-Am Series, will be a two-hour sprint race at Lime Rock Park, during the Memorial Day weekend Dodge Dealers Grand Prix road racing extravaganza, May 28-31.
Next up is a two-hour sprint race at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, June 4-6, as part of the U.S. Road Racing Classic weekend, also a weekend shared with the BFGoodrich Tires Trans-Am. Round Four will be the final sprint race of 1999, a three-hour contest, at the Miami-Dade Homestead Motorsports Complex, September 24-26.
Round Five will take place at Watkins Glen International, October 1-3, during the Oktoberfest at The Glen weekend, featuring the Six Hours of The Glen USRRC season finale.
Each USRRC race will have a minimum prize fund of $200,000 ($420,000 for the Rolex 24 At Daytona), and Television coverage for the 1999 USRRC schedule includes ESPN2 (Rolex 24 At Daytona), the Speedvision Network and the Fox Sports Net, with details to be announced soon.
Each of the five events will feature a single, combined-classes race, with separate series and class victories. The USRRCs new GTT class (for tube-frame cars formerly classified in GT1 as well as cars from the BFGoodrich Tires Trans-Am) will compete alongside the Can-Am, GT2 and GT3 classes at Daytona and Watkins Glen.
"The USRRC has continued to work closely with our entrants, manufacturers and promoters to create a series, and a schedule, that is correct for the market," said Alan Wilson, Executive Director, USRRC. "The 1999 USRRC schedule, rules package and operating philosophy builds on the foundation created in our inaugural season. With assistance from our strategic partners, our promoters, manufacturers, entrants and our television providers were confident the USRRCs sophomore season will be successful, and be a positive step forward in re-establishing road racing in North America.
"We are also holding discussions to incorporate one of the USRRC events as an international series United States round," added Wilson.
