U.S. F2000 RELEASES 1999 SCHEDULEFOUR NEW VENUES; BACK TO CANADA
FAIRFIELD, N.J. -- The U.S. F2000 National Championship has announced its 14-race 1999 schedule, including the five-race Oval Crown Championship. Highlighting the schedule are four new-for-99 venues and a long-awaited return to Canada.
Considered open-wheel racings most complete training ground, the 1999 U.S. F2000 calendar features eight traditional road course rounds, one street circuit, two one-mile oval events and three super-speedway rounds. New venues for 1999 include the series return to Mosport Park, Road Atlanta, Trois-Rivieres and the Pikes Peak International Raceway oval.
The 1999 season kicks off at the Phoenix 200 Pep Boys Indy Racing League weekend, March 28. After a month layoff, the second and third rounds of both the National Championship and the Oval Crown Championship will be at the Charlotte Motor Speedway, under the lights, during the IRL VisionAire 500k weekend, April 30-May 1.
The first road course races of the season come in the form of a doubleheader at Mosport Park with the BFGoodrich Tires Trans-Am Series, May 22-23. This marks the series return to the historic Canadian circuit, which hosted six U.S. F2000 rounds between 1992 and 1996.
Two weeks later, the series travels to the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course with Trans-Am and the USRRC for the U.S. Road Racing Classic, June 5. This race will be run on the long, 2.4-mile, course.
After a six-week mid-season break, the U.S. F2000 travels to Atlanta for a two-week stay in the Georgia capital. Atlanta Motor Speedway hosts the first weekend of racing along with the IRL on the 1.5-mile super-speedway, July 17. After a two-day test during the following week, the series stages two races at Road Atlanta, July 24-25. The U.S. F2000 last ran at Road Atlanta on the Trans-Am weekend of 1995, and has held a total of six races since 1992.
Following Atlanta, the series travels to Quebec for the Le Grand Prix Player s de Trois-Rivieres, August 1. This not only marks the series return to the Canadian street circuit for the first time since 1994, but also marks the first three straight weekend stretch in series history.
The series returns to Mid-Ohio with the FedEx Championship Series on the short, 2.258-mile, course, August 14, for Round 11, followed by the Oval Crown Championship finale at Pikes Peakthe site of the season finale on the road course in 1998August 29. This marks the series second trip to the Rocky Mountain oval, the first coming in 1997.
The season concludes with a doubleheader on the USRRC weekend at the Miami-Dade Homestead Motorsports Complex, September 24-26.
This will be an exciting season for F2000, said series co-promoter Mike Foschi. While maintaining our mix of road courses, ovals and street circuits to provide the most thorough training for drivers looking at the Toyota Atlantic or Indy Lights series and eventually Indy cars, weve managed to add some of the great venues weve gotten away from over the past years.
