NASCAR: Martinsville to Host Trucks, Modifieds in 1999

Martinsville, VA---NASCAR's Craftsman Truck Series and the NASCAR Featherlite Modified Tour will make only two stops each in Virginia in 1999 with Martinsville Speedway and Richmond International Raceway as hosts.

On Saturday, April 17 the trucks will be at Martinsville for the NAPA 250 while they visit Richmond on Thursday, September 9 for the Virginia Is For Lovers 200.

The Modifieds will only come South for two dates with Richmond running on Thursday, May 13 and Martinsville hosting the Goody's Headache Powder 200 on Saturday, October 2.

Both Martinsville races will be held on Winston Cup weekends. The NAPA 250 truck race on Saturday will be run the day before the Goody's Headache Powder 500 NASCAR Winston Cup event on Sunday, April 18.

And the Modifieds in the Goody's Headache Powder 200 will be running the day before the NAPA AutoCare 500 NASCAR Winston Cup race on Sunday, October 3.

NASCAR's popular Late Model Stock Cars also will make a 1999 appearance at Martinsville in the Taco Bell 300 on Sunday, September 26.

The Martinsville Truck events will be a homecoming for area favorites Jimmy Hensley of Ridgeway, VA and Stacy Compton of Hurt, VA. Hensley, who scored the first victory for Richard Petty Enterprises Dodge team at Nashville, finished sixth in the 1998 point standings.

Stacy, in his second year on the circuit, was named the Most Popular Driver in the series. He wound up seventh in the standings in the Royal Crown Cola Ford after winning at Portland, Oregon and Topeka, Kansas. He also captured pole positions at Avondale, Arizona and Flemington, New Jersey.
