NASCAR BGN: Kevin Grubb - Daytona Bound!

9 February 1999

Kevin Grubb will score several firsts in the NAPA Auto Parts 300 at Daytona International Speedway, the inaugural event of the 1999 NASCAR Busch Series season.

Grubb, 20, is making his first career start on the 2.5 mile high-banked speedway, a feat he will never forget.

"I try to approach all races the same, whether it is South Boston or Daytona," said Grubb. "But it's hard not to be in awe. Every driver's dream is to race at Daytona."

The Mechanicsville, Virginia native is also making his first start in the Brewco Motorsports No. 37 Timber Wolf Chevrolet Monte Carlo.

"I've had some time to work with the team during the off-season," said Grubb. "We tested at three different tracks. Communication with Terry (Shirley, crew chief) has been a breeze. He understands the car in my 'terms'. It makes it much easier to adjust the car when you don't have to spend half the time trying explain what it's doing. When I tell him, he knows exactly what I mean."

WHAT A FINISH: In the last four races he ran in the 1998 NASCAR Busch Series season, Kevin Grubb scored two top five and three top 10 finishes. He also led in two of the races.

ASSOCIATE SPONSOR: Gate Petroleum, a convenience store chain with 90 locations nationwide, is an associate sponsor on the No. 37 Timber Wolf Chevrolet Monte Carlo for the NAPA Auto Parts 300 at Daytona International Speedway.
