Pontiac Rookie of the Year candidate - Johnny Benson

Daytona Beach, Fl

The Monte Carlo I drove in the Grand National Series last year is a totally different car than the Pontiac I drive now. As far as it feels, it's good in the draft. It's good on the outside, inside. It doesn't pull around. It's real comfortable. I'm real pleased as far as the car does in the draft. Behind you they don't seem to get real loose. We had the same things with the (Chevy) Busch car. It seems to be real comfortable in the draft."

Talk about the your 125 race Thursday?

It's going to be exciting, obviously. It's going to be my first 125 hare at Daytona. I'm in it strictly to learn. Hopefully I can hitch onto the back of one of these guys that are going to the front. I'll help them as as I have to. If we can get to the front that will be great. Hopefully they can help me more than I can help them (laughing). I need to learn everything I can for the 500."

How do the tires hold up on long runs?

"The tires look real good on our car. We haven't made a real long run. We've probably had two-15 lap runs. Our tires look really good. I think tire wear could go as long as fuel, I guess."

Talk a little about expectations for the new Pontiac at Daytona?

I'm sure it's goinng to make a great intermediate car. We haven't done any testing on the intermediates, but we're pretty excited about what the guys said who have run on them. We're pretty excited about the intermediate deal."
