Dominic Dobson Named ESPN SportsZone's Racing Authority

INDIANAPOLIS, Aug. 22 -- Dominic Dobson, co-owner and
lead driver of the PacWest Touring Car Group, has been named as the
resident racing expert for ESPN SportsZone, the leading destination site
on the Web (espn.com). Dobson will host his own chat show, "On Pit
Road," for two Tuesdays each month at 3 p.m. ET.
The 39-year-old veteran racer has competed in several racing formulas
including CART, SCCA and IMSA. In 1967, Dobson began his career racing karts
and has since gained extensive experience in sports cars and open-wheel
racing. He raced Indy cars from 1985-1994. With over 60 career starts and
seven Indy 500 starts, he was named the "Fastest Rookie in History" by USAC at
the Speedway in 1988. And, in 1986, Dobson was named the "Rookie of the Year"
by CART.
Dobson currently pilots the #7 PPG Dodge Stratus in the North American
Super Touring Championship (NASTC) for PacWest, Chrysler's two-car,
factory-development team. In his first season of Super Touring, Dobson
finished second overall and narrowly missed winning the Championship.
"We chose Dominic based on his breadth of experience as a driver and an
owner and the fact that he approaches this opportunity with the same level of
commitment he has towards racing," said Karl Morris, ESPN SportsZone,
Motorsports Sysop. "Through his past chat sessions, Dominic has cultivated
quite a following and has been instrumental in growing our motor racing
coverage."
Motor racing is one of the fastest-growing sports in North America and, in
an effort to meet the growing interest of their viewers, ESPN SportsZone is
instituting this program format for the first time in its two-year history.
ESPN SportsZone is the most popular destination site on the Web, registering
approximately five million impressions each day. The site delivers all the
latest sports news, statistics, and scores, as well as unique interactive
features, live chat sessions, and exclusive, in-depth analyses from ESPN's
experts.
"I'm excited about this opportunity and proud to be associated with ESPN
SportsZone," said Dobson. "Their website allows us yet another way to reach
out to racing fans. The Internet is really the future of motorsports
communications."
The Indianapolis-based PacWest Touring Car Group was formed as a companion
organization to the successful PacWest CART team. Currently, the team is a
leading competitor within the Super Touring series, with drivers Dominic
Dobson and David Donohue. In 1996, the team captured five wins, eight pole
positions and 17 podium finishes and drivers Dobson and Donohue finished
second and third respectively in the Championship.
"On Pit Road" with Dominic Dobson will be featured on ESPN SportsZone on
Tuesday, August 26, 1997.
