Autolok 2000 Earns a UL Listing Mark

    PROVIDENCE, R.I., Oct. 7 -- The Autolok(R) 2000(TM) car
security device has just passed the Underwriter's Laboratory's (UL) Anti-theft
Alarms and Devices test earning it a UL listing mark. The Autolok 2000, which
made its U.S. debut earlier this spring, is manufactured by Autolok Security
Products, Ltd. in the U.K.
The Autolok 2000 is an easy to use steering wheel lock which protects the
vehicle by securing vulnerable parts of the steering wheel as well as the
driver's airbag. And, unlike bar devices, the product cannot be removed when
the steering wheel is cut.
"Since there is no government agency that measures and regulates vehicle
anti-theft devices, American consumers have often had difficulty
distinguishing one car security device's claims from another's," said Amanda
McCoy, Sales Manager of Autolok's U.S. subsidiary, Autolok Security Products,
Inc.
"UL has always been a trusted name for American consumers, enabling them
to know which products meet strict UL standards. Since the Autolok 2000 has
distinguished itself in UL testing, this now sets a real standard by which to
measure any vehicle security device, either mechanical or electronic," added
Ms. McCoy.
The overall Anti-theft Alarms and Devices test (UL1037) includes specific
tests such as Attack, Mechanical Strength, Road Shock and Vibration, Endurance
and Stress Distortion. The attack test is the main part of UL's test program
for vehicle anti-theft devices. One of the criteria for passing this
stringent test is that a product must withstand 5 minutes of aggressive attack
using the typical tools a thief would use.
The Endurance portion of the test was conducted on the locking mechanism
of the device. The Autolok 2000 has a unique dead bolt locking system which
presents the possibility of over 10 million key combinations. This patented
lock system is designed to make picks and skeleton keys useless. Moreover,
the lock won't open for a drill since it's constructed to discourage thieves
by becoming jumbled if tampered with.
Because of its heavy duty construction with hardened steel components, the
Autolok 2000 resists prolonged attacks. A further unique benefit of the
Autolok 2000 is the protection it offers to the driver's airbag, making it the
only product to protect both the vehicle and driver's airbag in one
user-friendly product.
The Autolok 2000 has been internationally tested and approved and was the
first product in its category to gain joint approval from the UK's two
organizations that set the standards in car security -- Sold Secure, the
police and Home Office initiative, and Thatcham, the British Insurance
Industry's Criteria for Vehicle Security. It was also the first car security
product to pass the stringent New Test Standards by TNO in the Netherlands.
All of these agencies conduct attack tests similar to the UL test.
An independent, not-for-profit organization, UL is the leading third-party
product safety certification organization in the United States. Each year, UL
evaluates thousands of different types of products, components, materials and
systems which include electrical and electronic equipment, mechanical
products, building materials, construction systems, fire protection equipment,
alarm systems and safes, both domestic and commercial. Those products that
earn the UL listing mark provide consumers with the confidence that a product
has met safety and security standards.
Autolok Security Products, Inc. is a subsidiary of Autolok Security
Products Limited of the United Kingdom which develops, manufactures and
markets a variety of anti-theft car security products throughout the world,
